Are You an X or an O?
Also known as Naughts and Crosses or Xs and Os, Tic Tac Toe is the ultimate classic in creating a bonding bit of distraction between two people with a pen and paper between them – because that's all you really need to get a game going. Just scratch out a 3x3 grid and take turns filling it with your mark of choice, an X or an O, until one of you can create a full straight line of three of your character or the board is full. (Guess which one usually happens?) Tic tac toe games have been the bane of many a teacher and the savior of plenty a long car ride. The only problem is that they have a tendency to end in an unsatisfying tie.
That's where online tic tac toe games come in. Not only are the graphics much better than your scribbles (and they avoid you marring your math notes), but twists in gameplay and facing off against artificial intelligence can get you a much more interesting outcome.
The game simply called Tic Tac Toe looks like a virtual version of the same old, same old at first. And you can certainly play it that way. But you can also make the object of the game to not get three symbols in a row, completely changing the way you think about the game. Or face off on a 9x9 board, where your next move determines where your opponent can place their next move, in Strategic Tic Tac Toe. There's also Tic Tac Toe Revenge, totally different but Tic Tac Toe-like games like Line-Up, and more!
All of these games can be played with one or two players, so grab a friend, or just face off against some AI. Looking for simple distraction the old-school way? Get your Xs and Os in line right here.
